First Church is a community of faith that is rooted and grounded in God’s love for all people. Affirming the teachings of Jesus Christ, we seek to provide a caring and open environment where diversity is welcome and all are respected as children of God. We support and encourage one another to live our faith through service to others.
SANCTUARY
We aim to be a safe place where we can step away from the chaos of the everyday and receive comfort through worship and prayer. We aim to be a caring and inclusive congregation that fosters fellowship and mutual support among its members.
ROOTED
We want to bear fruit where we've been planted, creating connections with our neighbors and community partners.
DIVERSE
We celebrate the unique attributes and privileges given to all of Creation. We will recognize and support the diversity in our city and the surrounding community.
HOSPITALITY
We believe there’s a seat here just for you! All who come through our doors—no matter where you are on life’s journey—should feel welcome, valued, and appreciated.
FUN
We aim to be a ‘third place’ in the City. A place other than home (first place) and work (second place) to gather to share laughter and good times, leaving us with a sense of excitement to return.
God the Eternal Spirit
We believe in God, the Eternal Spirit, who is made known to us in Jesus our brother. God calls the worlds into being, creates humankind in the divine image, and sets before us the ways of life and death. God seeks in holy love to save all people from aimlessness and sin, and judges all humanity and nations by that will of righteousness declared through prophets and apostles.
Jesus Christ Our Lord
We believe that in Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth, our crucified and risen Lord, God has come to us and shared our common lot, conquering sin and death, and reconciling the whole creation to its Creator.
The Holy Spirit & the Church
We believe that God bestows upon us the Holy Spirit, creating and renewing the church of Jesus Christ, binding in covenant faithful people of all ages, tongues, and races.
The Call to Discipleship
We believe that God calls us into the church to accept the cost and joy of discipleship, to be servants in the service of the whole human family, to proclaim the gospel to all the world and resist the powers of evil, to share in Christ's baptism and eat at his table, and to join him in his passion and victory.
God's Promise
We believe that God promises to all who trust in the gospel forgiveness of sins and fullness of grace, courage in the struggle for justice and peace, the presence of the Holy Spirit in trial and rejoicing, and eternal life in that kingdom which has no end.
Blessings and honor, glory and power be unto God. Amen.
No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here.
