Building Community
We are an intergenerational community that believes belonging comes before believing.
Relationships are formed not only in worship and Coffee Hour, but through seasonal activities, music, and shared life beyond Sundays. We know faith is not meant to be lived alone, so we intentionally cultivate deep connections across generations, backgrounds, and experiences.
Growing Spiritually
Faith here is nurtured with curiosity, not pressure; it is caught, not taught.
From Sunday School with our youngest members to Bible studies and devotional practices for adults, we support spiritual growth at every stage of life. Together, we engage scripture, ask honest questions, and practice a faith that seeks “life to the full” (John 10:10).
Serving Faithfully
Loving God means loving our neighbors in tangible ways.
Rooted in New Britain, we commit our time, resources, and energy to meeting real needs—addressing food insecurity, walking alongside those impacted by poverty, and seeking the peace and flourishing of our city and beyond.
Whether you're planning your first visit or getting involved in ministry, here are answers to the most common questions we receive.
We're so glad you're considering visiting First Church! We want you to feel comfortable and welcome from the moment you arrive. Here's what you can expect when you join us for worship.
Come as you are! Wear whatever is comfortable for you. You'll find our congregation dressed in everything from casual to business attire.
Our parking lot can be accessed from either Corbin Avenue or Wightman Road. Enter the church through the leftmost doors off the patio area. Our friendly ushers will greet you in the narthex (foyer before Sanctuary) and provide you with a bulletin to help you follow along with worship and learn about upcoming events.
Sit anywhere you'd like! Whether you prefer to observe from the back, especially if you're unsure how long you can stay, or you'd like to sit up front—it's entirely your choice. There's no assigned seating, and everyone is welcome.
Our worship service is a blend of traditional and meaningful elements. You'll experience beautiful music from our soloists and choir, accompanied by piano or organ. We share Communion together on the first Sunday of each month. The service typically lasts about an hour and includes scripture readings, a sermon, and hymns that speak to real life.
When the service ends, you can exit through the center doors of the narthex where you'll have the opportunity to greet our pastor, or use the side doors that lead directly to the parking lot. We'd love for you to join us for Coffee Hour in our Fireside Room, where coffee and snacks are served. It's a wonderful time to meet people, have conversations, and experience our community's warmth and fellowship.
Everyone's faith journey is deeply personal. No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here. If you'd like to explore membership or simply want to learn more about our church community, we'd be honored to walk with you on your faith journey. Please feel free to contact our pastor to continue the conversation.
No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here.
