Light of the World

Advent is not only the perfect time to read the story of the birth of Jesus; it’s also a great time to dive deeper into the biblical texts that surround the event.

We will be using as our guide—Light of the World: A Beginner’s Guide to Advent, by author, professor, and biblical scholar Amy-Jill Levine. Over the course of this four-week Bible study we will explore the biblical texts surrounding the story of the birth of Jesus. Through readings and video presentations we will join Professor Levine as she traces the Christmas narrative through the stories of Zechariah and Elizabeth, Mary, the journey to Bethlehem, and the visit from the Magi. These stories open conversations around connections of the Gospel stories to the Old Testament, the role of women in first-century Jewish culture, the importance of Mary’s visitation and the revolutionary implications of Mary’s Magnificat, the census and the stable, and the star of Bethlehem and the flight to Egypt.

We will meet in person on Monday evenings, beginning at 6 pm with a light meal and fellowship, Bible study at 6:45.

In Person on Monday November 22nd, 29th and December 6th and 13th

Formerly Christian Education

As with many of our current church programs, our Faith Formation continues to be suspended until further notice, due to Covid 19.  Prior to the pandemic, our Faith Formation programs invited people of all ages to participate in the ministries and missions of Christian faith.  These programs included Sunday morning children and family lessons, learning center events, adult education opportunities, second hour activities (following Sunday worship), youth fellowship and service programs, and confirmation instruction for High School Students.
